Non-Participating Nodes
Evolving Knowledge Base
The RBTP Knowledge Base is evolving weekly as part of our pilot programs with RBA members. We’d love your input — submit feedback or help shape the protocol in real time by joining a pilot.
Overview
This scenario demonstrates what happens when upstream nodes in the supply chain are not participating in RBTP/UNTP credential sharing. We explore how organizations create and receive Digital Product Passports (DPPs) and Digital Facility Records (DFRs) when:
- Some suppliers participate while others don't
- Supply chain steps have no additional data to share (e.g., traders)
- There are gaps in upstream credential availability
Key Questions:
- How will real-world adoption patterns affect value for organizations that adopt RBTP?
- What does the value chain picture look like for receiving organizations when suppliers or parts of upstream are not sending UNTP/RBTP-aligned data?
Scenario Versions:
- Mine doesn't have data (non-participatory nodes)
- Trader scenario from Greenville (participatory node with no value-add data)
- Smelter with some suppliers not providing UNTP/RBTP-aligned data
- Manufacturer doesn't provide UNTP/RBTP-aligned data
Objectives
Demonstrate:
- What happens when upstream nodes are not participating
- Scenarios with variable upstream data (some participating, some not)
- Scenarios where supply chain steps don't have additional data (e.g., traders)
Success Criteria:
- Demonstration of DPPs and DFRs that skip steps in supply chains
- Demonstration of DPPs and DFRs created with no upstream information
- Demonstration of DPPs and DFRs that have some upstream RBTP-compliant credentials
- Discovery of data where there isn't a direct supply chain relationship
